The namegiving patron St. Kizito
The name of our scout group is taken from the saint Kizito, who was one of the Martyrs of Uganda. We chose him as our namegiving patron, because he was the youngest among these martyrs, who were slained by the King Mwanga II of Buganda in 1886. He had been in an age like most of our members are now, when he refused to give up his beliefs and was burned with his friends because he did not renounce Christianity.
A second reason to name our group “Kizito” is that there is the ash of his friend Carl Lwanga as relic in the lord’s table of our home town’s church “Heilig Geist” (Holy Ghost). He was one of the Uganda Martyrs as well.
The Uganda Martyrs were canonized on 18. Oktober 1964 by Pope Paul VI. Their feast day is celebrated June 3.
