In Schweden 2007 - Hike
Wir sind in den letzten drei Wochen der Sommerferien wieder wandern gewesen.
Am 14.7 machten wir uns mit Bollerwagen und Rucksäcken auf zum Bahnhof in Ratingen Ost, denn schon um 7:40 Uhr sollte unser Zug kommen! Zur geplanten Zeit stiegen wir also in den Bahn, um in ca. 11h anzukommen.

From 08 August to 12 August 2007 the City of Nelspruit hosted an International Join- In- Jamboree, celebrating 100 years of Scouting and 10 years of Scouting in Mpumalanga.
A Service Day on Thursday, a Cultural Day on Friday and a Celebration Day on Saturday formed the well organized programme for every visitor.
After the Arrival Day, Scouts went for their Service Day, where they showed what they are standing for. Over 600 Scouts from Great Britain, Germany, Swaziland, Benoni, Mafeking and Mpumalanga were deployed in 29 different places for social and environmental work.
About 30 Scouts visited the well known organization
2 Sisters in White River to build a gym for the children. Another group went to Dina Pule’s (the MEC of Agriculture) house to attaching new energy saving light bulbs, sponsored by Eskom. One Scout group went to Rob Ferreira Hospital to playing with children, encouraging them and serving food. Others went to Crossings Spar to pack bags for customers. Environment problems such as pollution, wetland preservation and climate change awareness are huge problems. That is why Scout groups were positioned
at many places for collecting litter. The list of Scout’s social work is long and can be continued with other projects such as painting walls for orphans, singing for old people, sorting seeds, cleaning gardens and houses and making greeting cards for others.
Collections were made for GRIP, the SPCA and the Red Cross. During this particular day, Scouts in Mpumalanga showed their faces and were prepared to help and understand others according to the theme of the International centenary of Scouting: One world, one promise.
On Friday the Scouts enjoyed a Cultural Day where they were given the opportunity to learn something about different cultural groups participating in the camp. The Scouts were divided in 10 groups rotating on the 10 bases. These bases provided information, traditional food, dances and songs about the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Cape coloured, Swazi, Tsonga, Ndebele, Sotho, Zulu and Xhosa. The youths were excited to learn more about other cultures and so the mixture of cultural backgrounds widened the Scout’s horizons.
Early in the next morning about 300 Cubs arrived and the celebration of 100 years of Scouting and 10 years of Scouting in Mpumalanga began with the official opening. A birthday cake was arranged and cut into pieces by some of our special guests, such as:
Mr Philemon Mathebula, acting HOD of agriculture and land administration behalf of Pule, Uwe Bothur, Scout’s ambassador from Germany and Dudley James, Chairman of Mpumalanga’s Scout’s Association.
During the day, again different fun bases were set up for the children to rotate. The highlights for the Cubs were the two jumping castles and the water slide. With happy faces, after eating the birthday cake the Cubs went back home and the remaining people prepared themselves for the campfire and the evening programme.
On the final day, a big closing ceremony took place at the venue. The hard work of some participants was acknowledged and a representative from the headquarters was present, who delivered an appreciating speech and thanked the Scouts for their contribution to society and the nation.
All in all the Mpumalanga Scouts and organizers did a great job to represent the Scout’s duties, their culture and their promise.
